MPs decisively threw out proposals to give people the right to be helped to die by a two-to-one majority yesterday after a historic debate in a packed House of Commons.

In the first Commons debate on the highly-controversial issue for nearly 20 years, 330 MPs opposed the Assisted Dying Bill and 118 voted in favour.
